NBA Rescinds Anthony Edwards’s 18th Technical Foul, Clears Him to Play Season Finale.

In a pivotal move ahead of the Minnesota Timberwolves’ final regular season game, the NBA has officially rescinded Anthony Edwards’s 18th technical foul, clearing him to play against the Utah Jazz on Sunday.

The decision came at 3:47 p.m. ET on Saturday following a league review of the controversial call made during Friday night’s 117-91 win over the Brooklyn Nets. Edwards was initially assessed the technical for arguing a call in the second quarter, which would have triggered a one-game suspension under NBA rules.

NBA crew chief Bill Kennedy later told a pool reporter that the technical was for “use of profanity directed toward an official.” The foul, issued by referee Ray Acosta, drew heavy scrutiny from fans and analysts alike due to its potential playoff implications.

Had the call stood, Edwards would have missed Sunday’s high-stakes clash with Utah—Minnesota’s final game of the 2024-25 NBA regular season. At 48-33, the Timberwolves are fighting to avoid the play-in tournament, and a win could lock them into a top-six seed in the Western Conference.

The NBA rulebook mandates a one-game suspension at 16 technical fouls and an additional suspension for every two thereafter. Edwards had already served a one-game suspension in February for his 16th tech, coincidentally also against the Jazz—a game Minnesota lost.

Now, with the technical foul rescinded, Edwards will be eligible to lead his team in what could be the most important game of the season.
