Southampton manager Juric leaves after relegation

Southampton and Ivan Juric Part Ways After Historic Relegation Blow

In the wake of a dismal Premier League season, Southampton have confirmed the departure of manager Ivan Juric following the club’s confirmed relegation on Sunday.

Juric, who replaced Russell Martin on an 18-month contract in December, has struggled to make an impact during his brief tenure, managing just two wins in 16 matches. His stint ends after only 107 days in charge—placing him among the shortest managerial reigns in Premier League history.

The final nail in the coffin came with a 3-1 defeat against Tottenham, sealing the Saints’ fate as the first club ever to be relegated with eight games remaining. It was Southampton’s 25th league loss this season and leaves them anchored at the foot of the table with only 10 points—just two shy of the infamous all-time low of 11 set by Derby County in 2007-08.

“Juric joined us at a difficult moment and gave everything to steer the team forward,” the club said in a statement. “While results didn’t turn in our favour, we appreciate the commitment and transparency he and his staff brought during these tough months.”

As Southampton begin to plan for life in the Championship, the club is turning to Simon Rusk as interim manager, with former Saints midfielder Adam Lallana stepping in to assist.

This marks the second time in just two seasons that Southampton have parted ways with two permanent managers mid-campaign, echoing their 2022-23 struggles alongside Leeds United.

Juric’s brief Premier League chapter follows a similarly short-lived spell at Roma, where he was dismissed after 12 games. The 49-year-old has previously managed several clubs in Italy, including Torino, Hellas Verona, and Genoa.

With a critical summer ahead, Southampton now face the task of rebuilding both their squad and identity, hoping to regain their footing in England’s top flight.
